1. My mom, dad, and sister are members of my family. I consider these specific people to be members of my family, because they’re the people that live with me. I consider my greatgrandparents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins to be members of my extended family. As I stated previously, the people that don’t live with me aren’t considered to be members of my family. However, the other people that I am very close with: my best friend, good neighbors, and teammates, are considered to be a part of my family. I love them all just as I do my own family. The difference between these people and the people I stated at the beginning of my paper is that these groups of people aren’t genetically connected with me. These are the groups of people that …show more content…
are considered to be a culturally developed family.
2. I would define family as the same people living in a household; that consists of parents and children. The textbook separates family into two definitions. The conjugal family is a kinship group comprising husband, wife, and children. Then the book also defines extended family as a kinship group comprising the conjugal family plus any other relatives present in the household, such as a grandparent or uncle. I think that the book is in the right for splitting the definition of family into two separate definitions. This is because there should be two different definitions. Everyone defines family differently. 3. I do not believe that society needs to have only one definition of family to operate most efficiently. It’s completely understandable for people to define family as people that care and love them for who they are. Whether people consider to be family like that, or not, there will always be the government’s definition of family. I find it necessary though for the government to have a definition of family to use upon everyone, because that’s how they set certain laws and goals in place.
4. My family has carried out public functions in a few ways. My mom takes care of her grandma and my dad takes care of his grandparents. The only difference is that neither dependents live in the same household as my family. They live on their own, but my parents go to their houses and help them out. A reason why I put that my family only carries out public functions in a few ways and not many, is because none of my greatgrandparents are chronically ill or considered to be the frail elderly.
However, they are not able to do everything on their own. I also have a young family, so my greatgrandparents are in better condition than most. Therefore, not even needing a public family good.
5. My family defined more as a private family than a public one. My parents meet all of the basics of the definition of a private family. They’re two individuals that have a long term marriage, they both share household work, and most certainly, they both combine their incomes.
6. A situation where the boundary around my family system is set by someone in power is my families health insurance policy. My family's health insurance policy only includes the people living in the currently household. I know it should be this way, but it’s frustrating at times because my grandparents that don’t have as good of health insurance can’t be added. I guess this just results in my opinion towards bad health insurance policies. This boundary has been set by the health insurance company and

the company in which my dad works for. I’m not sure if I would change the boundary in my scenario. I think I would just try to change the elderly’s health insurance policies. I think this because I do believe the definition of family is the immediate family members. However, it’s bothersome to know my extended family can’t have the same benefits as my immediate family gets.
