Society has entered a very technological era. Technology is incorporated in our everyday life. Technology does make life easier but it also
promotes a more sedentary lifestyle. A lot of people now a days chose to buy things online rather than going to the store. More children get hooked on all the high tech gadgets and less choose to go out doors to play. Not only that but every day news report more crime related incidents and perhaps this too drives parents to opt that their children stay indoors watching television or playing video games, rather than be exposed to the violence outside. Economy does not help. More people choose to eat processed fast food just because it is more available to them. Eating healthy is thought of being more expensive than a bag of chips and can of soda. Let alone there are more fast food places in low income communities than there are fresh markets.
Diabetes has become an epidemic. It is no longer an issue for the aged population, but now a day diabetes does not discriminate age, race, or income level. Society needs to see that although technology has made everyone’s life easier it should not get in the way of living a healthy lifestyle. It is understandable that parents fear their children playing outside as a result of the violence, so what is that needs to be done in order to provide a safety environment for children to play in? If no one does anything children perhaps will not be victims of violent crimes, but a sedentary lifestyle will make them victims of an incurable disease. State and federal laws should control the number of fast food business in communities, and promote more fresh markets across all income neighborhoods.
