Family is an extraordinarily important aspect of my life.
Family is an extraordinarily important aspect of my life. My mother, above everyone else in my life, has had a significant influence on me. My mom has said that if the whole world turns their back on you, your family will always be there for you. She has always been there for me. She is an absolutely amazing human being and a great role model. Everyday I see how she handles having four children, manages a household and a career. Through her example, I have learned to make good decisions and be very responsible.

My mother inspires me everyday. She has taught me to not only respect other people's opinions, but to formulate my own opinions as well. She showed me that I can do anything I put my mind to and has told me to always stand up for myself. I started to play soccer when I was in second grade and I came to love it. Years ago when I was playing soccer, I was not getting much playing time during games. I was not one of the strongest players but I played well. I was disappointed about the games and talked to my mom about it. She said rather than her talking to the coach I should remind the coach that I was not getting enough playing time. During the next game I stood by the coach and asked to be put in. It worked. I got more playing time and the coach noticed how well I played. He complimented me on my game and from that point on I didn't have to ask for more playing time. I am glad that she encouraged me to stand up for myself. From this experience, I learned that in life you have to fight for what you want.

My mom has shown me that we should not only take from the community, but also give back. I volunteer with the Girl Scouts and at a local church as much as possible. With my church youth group I have visited a Veteran's home to talk with the residents and keep them company. We also have done a rake and run where we rake the leaves of elderly or disabled people. I was voted onto a core team by my peers. On the core team I help the advisers lead the

Personally, I have been involved in my community since I was in the Boy Scouts of America. As I acsended through to the top rank of Boy Scouts known as an Eagle Scout, many projects were conducted. For example, I have planned and conducted my own Eagle Scout project in 2009; this project consisted of building a roof for my local firehouse. Other community service includes roadside clean-ups, annual earth day events, and fellow Eagle Scout projects. Since my community college career, I have been well involved with our campus and community. Particularly in Phi Theta Kappa, the national honor society of all community colleges, where I have become the President of our chapter. Within the society, the objectives include a honor's in action project…

    2. Not only has she influenced me to take the best care of myself, but she has also taught me to be the best I can be to my loved ones. My mother has influenced me by being an example. She is in the business of flipping houses, and she missed out on the purchase of a house so that she could help me with college. She also gave up rooms in our home to adopted children and foster children. She does not get paid for them, but she brings them in because she loves them. Her sacrifices have made me realize how humbling it is to do such wonderful things for loved ones. At the end of the day, I will always have my family, just like they will always have me. My family is the best it can possibly be, because my mother has influenced all of us to be the best we can to each other.…

I asked myself, “what can I do to make an impact on my community?”. That is when I founded my high school’s Red Cross Club. We aimed to push the vision-mission, “to alleviate human suffering through volunteering and donations” to the student body to make a change in our community. I initially started with only three other members, however, we bolstered our ranks by over 20+ members in two weeks. Balancing 7 AP and PreAP classes, such as Biology and US History, proved to be a challenge for management of the club. Keeping up with extracurriculars was not always easy however, I always made time to supervise my club. Being a leader at times was very frustrating, but overall it was a very positive experience. While I did slave for the club, it never felt like work to me because I felt very passionate helping others. The Red Cross Club became my medium for making a positive impression on my environment. Through the cooperation of my school’s class officers and my own members, we did donations like can drives around Thanksgiving to help soften the burden of low income families in inner Houston. In addition, with collaboration with Student Council, we fundraised and donated to sponsor underprivileged children during Christmas. Being a part of this club has made a positive impact on my life to be great. My experiences at the club made me develop a strong work ethic, and useful leadership experience to be used in…

My youth group leader instilled the importance of community service in me at a young age. Youth group is where I have done the majority of my community service projects. One of my favorite projects was the grocery bandits. My Wednesday night class encouraged the church to bring in groceries to make a Thanksgiving meal out of. We ended up being able to make several full boxes of groceries. My class delivered these boxes anonymously to families in the community that were struggling. I believe that community service is a great thing, but being able to do it without taking credit for it takes real courage. I’ve also volunteered at a homeless shelter/food storehouse twice with my youth group. Other community service projects that I’ve done include: cleaning an elderly ladies house, cleaning another elderly ladies yard gathering supplies to take to the battered…

My community involvement includes volunteer work through National Honor Society. A yearly activity that I assisted in starting for National Honor Society includes the canned food drive where we have averaged collecting around 400 cans a year for the local food pantry. I was also the master of ceremony at the Veterans Day Assembly this year and lead the rest of the members in the ceremony. Through National Honor Society, I singlehandedly started a Cardiac Ball and a Red Out at a basketball game at Durant High School where the proceeds went straight to the American Heart Association. My community involvement also includes work through student council such as the community blood drive that was hosted at Durant High School. Throughout my four…

My first reason why family is important to my life is because they have always been there for me. Many of my peers succeed at certain sports or even various classes like English or Calculus. Although, I did struggle with my other activities and curriculum classes, family has always been there. Throughout middle school and high school, I competed with my friend for captain of the soccer team. I didn’t beat him until eighth grade when my hard work finally paid off. Because of this, I now realize how dedication and persistence can help someone achieve one’s goals. If I never decided to join the soccer team and compete for first captain, I wouldn’t have had the opportunity to challenge myself and gain the skills and characteristics that would benefit me throughout the rest of my life, if it had not been for my family pushing me to excel.…

Also within my community, I organized a Rouge River Rescue cleanup project. There is a small creek in the commons area of our neighborhood that needed a serious cleanup. I recruited a group of my peers and sent out flyers to all the houses in our subdivision. When the day came to clean up the creek, the turnout of people who came to help was astounding! I consider myself a leader; I saw a problem and found a solution.…

A family should always be there to support you, and this is why I value them most, because they value me the same. According to my opinion, we value family because family will love us unconditionally, and they will be there for us. Of course, there are other people who love us, such as a girlfriend/boyfriend, but they are not like family because the family will stay with us forever. Also, families teach us so many valuable things, such as respect, truth and success.…
