I also discovered that the different backgrounds and cultures could affect the way someone processes things. At 12 years old, my spark I had a passion for learning about different cultures and practices. I went to a school that was widely diverse and was able to experience a variety of home settings. It helped me understand why some of my friends were able to deal with the social cues easier than others. I want to be able to help people from all backgrounds. When they are faced with adversity, I want to teach them to use their strengths to manage themselves in situations that seems unfavorable. I believe that counseling triggers an emotional release encompassed with revelations and realizations that unveil the true essence of ones being. When an individual realizes the core of who they are, they have achieved their purpose and potential. In the midst of this realization, these individuals who had a therapeutically transformational experience are able to assist other individuals who are enduring the same circumstances. I have a drive to help people see the best in themselves and I don’t think that can be achieved unless I have knowledge of all cultures.
I chose marriage and family therapy because I am disheartened by relationships that break because two individuals do not learn to properly communicate or pull out the best in one another because internally each individual was harboring the worst of past-afflicted situations and events. In the case of domestic situations, a dysfunctional environment is procreated in which miscommunications can occur.
