In examining the reasons causing the tragedy of the Ung family after the Cambodian Genocide in 1975, one can assume that these reasons include economic breakdown (continuity of the Angkar trading crops for firearms), government collapse (changes in the soldiers’ behavior towards the villagers, continuity of Khmer Rouge killing villagers at Lo Reap), and the lack of social interactions (changes in communication within the village of Lo Reap).…
Crossing Over: Family The main idea in this chapter (number 1 question) is about the author returned to Cheran City, the time he spent with the Chavez’s family and his visits with Dr. Tito and Doña Elisa, a shurikis. The writer’s second home in Cheran City is the only hotel in town, a dilapidated two-story with moldy mattresses and water-stained walls. The writer became close to the Chavez’s Family.…
In both “On Going Home” written by Joan Didion and “The Case for Single-Child Families” written by Bill McKibben, family is the main topic that each author centers their stories. While each author has different perspectives, they also have some similarities that come to the surface. Both passages are full of insights of how each author views their families and how their families have shaped their lives. Individually each author has a different tone and style, but each let the aspect of family effect their futures and their lives all together.…

Lorraine Hansberry’s “A Raisin In The Sun” and Alice Walker’s “Everyday Use” are both stories that are connected by the common factor of family values. Although both stories have their own individual qualities it is the heritage and importance of family that brings both stories together. The similar personalities of Beneatha from “A Raisin In The Sun” and Dee from “Everyday Use” are a good example of how family values dominate the stories and the characters in them. Both Beneatha and Dee come from families rich in culture, history and traditions but strive to find individuality outside of their family’s norms. However, it is the way in which they approach conformity that is a testament to how one should and shouldn’t go about this process.…

Within the reading there are many suggestions as to how to keep the family unit strong. Mentoring and empowering children are two effective ways to strengthen family. “Mentoring your children does not mean appearing perfect before them. In fact, to give them the impression that you have no struggles with sin and no problems will push them away. Children may feel isolated, imperfect, and unable to approach you because they think you will not understand their imperfections.1 There is a strong message of empowerment that comes through within the text. “Do things with your children, not for them. Mentors help people accomplish their goals. Parents must avoid the trap of doing for the children all the time, instead of doing with the children and letting them learn. It may be easier to do something for them, but it will be empowering to do it with the child.”2 In conclusion, I would say that this book is highly effective in equipping modern family leaders with the necessary information to pass on to their children…
My 10th grade U.S. History class at Center Point High School was presented with the challenge of producing a digital family history project. The digital device could be anyone they choose. Any point-of-view was acceptable, as long as it was relevant to their family. The rationale of this assessment was to allow my students to explore their family history and develop and expand their use of digital technology in the educational process.…
Before i had a family, i dreamed of my "made up family", having a joyous time. Well that sure made me understand perception can alter your true life experiences when you go thru real situations. My point being, it was June of 2015 last year, and my small family and my mother planned to take a trip. My mother resides in New Mexico and we live in Las Vegas, so the demand for togetherness was of a longing feeling. One could say even mutual. When all the plans went thru we were on our way to Las Cruces,N.M. We were initially going to pick up my baby daughter. She had been with my mother for a few months and daddy was missing her. At this time i had'nt seen my family in 16 years and they were interested in meeting my wife and kids for the first…

The thesis of the three stories are that who we are, our sense of identity, is at least in part shaped or affected by circumstances beyond our control and/or by the people who have authority over us. This theme of parent/child relationships applies to the three stories, “Rules of the Game” and “Two Kinds” both by Amy Tan and “Through the Tunnel” by Doris Lessing. In the story “Rules of the Game”, Waverly and her mother both work together to make Waverly successful in chess, but it does cause tensions. In “Two Kinds”, Jung-mei has tensions with her mother when she wants her to become someone famous, but Jung-mei does not want that. In “Through the Tunnel”, Jerry decided to venture out from his mother to do something he had not done before.…
