"Violent video games and aggressive behavior in young women”, was written by Craig A. Anderson and Christine R. Murphy; the main idea of their article is to research aggression within young women. This article is based on research conducted on ninety-one undergraduate women students that were enrolled in an introductory phycology course. Out of the ninety-one students, thirty-three played a violent video game with a female protagonist. Thirty more students played a violent video game with a male protagonist and the other twenty-seven played a nonviolent video game. The data from one of the participants wasn’t used because of the missing values on…

The conventionally accepted roles of both males and females in ancient Grecian society were well defined and manifested. Women were considered the weaker of the sexes and, thus, were expected to remain in the home and perform their domestic duties, while the men were to be rulers and bread-winners. The woman’s voice was not heard on any issues affecting the society as her opinions were thought unworthy of consideration. She was required merely to reproduce, to execute her domestic duties well and to submit incontestably to the authority of the men. In essence the Greeks valued their women almost as little as a common slave was valued.…

The video games phenomenon is somewhat new in this modern society. Although they often to be entertaining, the contents have become more violent and disturbing as computing technology has become much more advanced. These days, the popularity of violent video games has caused an increase in controversy. Parents and experts feel that some games are just too violent and they think that the violent will spill over into the real world. However, I strongly believe violent video games do not cause an increase in aggression in adolescents. In fact in many ways violent video games benefit the children that are playing them.…

Does playing a video game make you prone to commit real-life violence? This question has been an issue since the very early 90's when violent games like Doom and Wolfenstein were released, but only in the last half a decade or so (mainly since the incident at Columbine, Colorado, 1999 – when it was revealed that the teenage shooters were avid video game players) has it really come to the majority's attention. The key issue that both sides can't agree on is whether people should be allowed to play violent games or not. I think both sides agree that extremely violent video games should not be played by young children, who have a harder time separating reality from fiction; also, the media does indeed only report one side of the argument. There have been numerous studies claiming both that violent games correlate to real-life violence, and that there is little or no such correlation. The problem is that there is no concrete evidence of a causal conclusion between video game violence and real-life violence. If there was such a conclusion, both sides would likely be able to come to an understanding, but as it stands now, they are in a stalemate.…

After the second test, the students watched a ten minute video showing real life violence in four different contexts. While these clips were going on, the students heart rates were still measured. Lastly after the video, the students were asked to fill out a questionnaire asking various questions using a one to ten scale, describing their experience with their video game and the film showed. As stated in the previous section, after the students heart rate was tested before they played their given game, after the play through, and during the video showing real life violent acts occurring. Within the two groups of games (nonviolent, violent) the authors found that there was not any significant differences between the four selected violent games or the four selected non violent games. Through their main analysis which utilized the heart rates of the users, they found their was no significant differences during the first two heart rate tests between the non violent group and the violent group. The portion that does cause some interest is the difference of heart rates in regard to viewing the compilation of violent…

My hypothesis on this matter is that in fact playing violent video games do increase aggressive behavior in children and adults alike. My reasoning for this is unlike violent movies, violent video games require input from the player. By aggressive behavior, I am specifically talking about verbal and emotional behavior, not physical behavior because juvenile crime has decreased in the last decade since games were introduced. My theory on this is that the violent video games give the player to get physical aggression out in the game versus on someone in real life. In this study, the independent variable is the violent video games and the dependent variable is the aggressive behavior as a result of playing the violent video games. If I was conducting…

As it has been in debate for years since it was first brought to light, the concern of same-sex parenting continues to be brought up with jabs at its ethics and practicality. Since June 26, 2015, all U.S. states have legalized gay-marriage, making a huge breakaway for society. Yet, even with this huge development in our culture, the disputes against it still manage to work their way into society and daily discussions. With the recent legalizing, those that were against gay-marriage and gay couples being able to raise children are forced to accept this rapidly changing world and become open to new advancements. This article is one of many that cover the controversy of same-sex couples…

In today’s ultra-violent media world, approximately 68% of Americans play video games. With one of the most popular video games of 2012 being Call of Duty, it can be argued that it is more than a coincidence that the level of violence in society today has risen at a similar rate to the popularity of these types of video games. Statistics like this may not be proven but cannot be ignored in any studies conducted in behaviour traits, however, the connection between aggression in modern society and the increasing popularity of video games must be deemed more than a coincidence.…

Video games have recently become a controversial topic, in regards to understanding if violent video games can cause aggression and violent behavior. Hundreds of studies, as to violent video games, have been tested on children, bullies and even criminals to find out if there is a connection between violent video games and bad behavior. Although most people believe that violent video games do cause aggression in behavior, because of such events like murders, criminal acts and personal experience in the past history, I disagree that there is no connection between videogames and violence in a person's demeanor.…
