Famous Thinkers Paper
When I think of famous thinkers a vast number of people come to mind. Two thinkers that genuinely stand out to me are Bill Gates and Martin Luther King Jr. Bill Gates has virtually become a household name because of Microsoft. Martin Luther King Jr. is famous for his “I Have a Dream” speech. Bill Gates and Martin Luther King Jr. had numerous contributions to society and they worked through great lengths to make it happen.

was very educated. He skipped both the ninth and the eleventh grades, and entered Morehouse College in Atlanta at age 15, in 1944. In 1948, King graduated from Morehouse College and earned a sociology degree. He went on to Seminary and was elected student body president and he was class valedictorian ("Martin Luther King Jr. Biography", 2013.) He was accepted into several colleges but decided to go to Boston University. King was named pastor of a Baptist church in Montgomery, Alabama. The city was segregated, much like Atlanta. King wanted to do more to protest segregation, Rosa Parks gave him the chance on December 1, 1955. She refused to give up her seat to a white man, she was arrested and charged with violating the Montgomery City Code. She was found guilty and fined $10. Local civil rights activists and King planned a citywide bus boycott. This was just the beginning of King’s contributions to society. This boycott lasted for more than a year and King became a national figure. In 1963, to gain even more attention for civil rights, King called for a peaceful “march for freedom” in Washington, D.C. ("Martin Luther King Jr. Biography", 2013.) It was there in Washington, D.C. that King made his “I Have a Dream” speech. His speech helped to create support for new action. Within the next year, the Civil Rights Act of 1964 was passed. This Act was a major step toward ending segregation and discrimination. In 1964, King received the Nobel Peace Prize.
