I. CHOICE EXPLANATION
After a while of researching on the internet, I decided to choose Mies van der Rohe’s Farnsworth House to make my model due to many reasons.
Firstly, I was impressed by the way how the house float on the surrounding, which make it become the iconic to the whole nature. Thanks to of eight I-shaped steel columns that support the roof and floor frameworks, the house looks so structural and expressive
Secondly, the simplicity of the house with only white colour outside create a fresh, clean, and elegant feeling to me. And white colour is also my favourite colour
Thirdly, the minimalism of the design is also one of the style that I wanted to pursuit in my life.
Fourthly, I also love the way how Mies van der Rohe process of thinking and developing the concept of his design, which is so ground-breaking in that period because it is one of the modern period’s most celebrated works of architecture, a piece that pushed the envelope in the use of glass. The home features floor-to-ceiling glass throughout, providing an open connection the riverbank nature of the plot. The house is also considered to be Mies' finest work. Its proportions are perfect, its workmanship impeccable. It looks as if it had been built by high priests to house a deity. When designing the house, the client asked Mies van der Rohe to create a home that truly represented himself and his spirit, to create a structure that embodied the philosophies of the modernist era.
