By 1960 the hippie subculture took over, bringing their bohemian vibes with them, making the maxi floral dresses and flower crowns a hit. And by the mid-1980s Madonna had introduced us to the universe of the Girl Power, the spandex bodysuits and the colorful disco inspired clothes. As we see fashion has always been transcending hand in hand with us, and the way it is seen and displayed has changed over the years; however, fashion has always been used as a tool to dazzle, impress, shock and even awe. It makes a statement about the type of person we are or desire to be. Because of that, from century to century, fashion has remained as a way of self-expression for the ones who create it and for the ones who wear it.
Fashion has been evolving throughout the years, adapting to the personality of the society as it changes. Multiple trends have formed, influenced by the age when they appeared, trying to represent as best as possible the aura of that era. Traveling a long time from the medieval fashion, with the corsets and super elaborated couture dresses that tried to show the Victorian and royal stage, to the diverse trends that are on point right now, such as grunge, minimal and bohemian, which are trying to embrace and give the best representation possible of the modern society. While doing the transition from one age to another, those styles and trends have adopted or incorporated other styles, producing a combination that gives us a vast variety of expression. This is the case of styles such as boho-chic, preppy and resort, whose purpose is to embrace more characteristics or traits of the society so their persona can be reflected to the maximum by these garments.
