rise of equality between men and women. In 1920 the 19th Amendment was passed in the United States it was granting suffrage to women. Women advanced in the work force they got hired for office jobs and many other jobs women weren’t able to work in before. It was the first Era when women were more acceptable to smoke and drink in public. That was the first time women had voting rights and it was a huge significant of change. Fashion gave women more opportunities, dressmaking was a new job for women and it was a well pay job making it easier for women to support there families. There were health and beauty clubs that helped women refined themselves by getting fitter and healthier. This clubs helped women remove there stress and have time for them. “They also gained several rights and a freer lifestyle” (The Roaring Twenties p.1). The statement is agreeable because it did give women a new life. 1920 was when fashion was an important issue for women’s. A flapper was a young modern woman who went for dates, wore fashionable clothes and had a job. Flappers were a symbol of women changing in society. For the first time women had short hair, when other decades before women had to have long hair. The designers were given freedom of expression. The dresses were lighter and brighter, new styles were made every day. It was easier to make dressed than other decades. Women wore make up and applied it in public without caring what other people think. Clothing changed the role of women in society. “In line with progress in other areas, clothing developed closer relationships with art, and an increased sense of freedom was expressed in simple yet elegant designs, with carefully selected fabrics, and an intelligent use of color”(Women’s Fashion in 1920’s p.1). This statement explains how clothing was a sense of freedom top women. On the other hand, fashion was also a negative thing to women in 1920’s. Women started caring to much about fashion and less about important issues going on the society. They would waist to much money on dresses and other accessories they believe was important to be in the trend. It made the women careless about education and care more about the trends going on in 1920. Many people during this time believe fashion was breaking the tradition and generation. People that disagree with the Flappers believe they were breaking all kinds off morality codes because the dresses that were worn were until the knees. Fashion affected the women’s rights enormously during the 1920’s. It gave women the right to be free and express them self. Decades ago, many people believed that women were own by there husband, but no longer were women known like this during the 1920. It was an Era when women just wanted to have fun, they just wanted to enjoy there rights given to them. As well as it gave them more rights it also affected how the women act. Women did start caring to much about the trends. Fashion was the best thing that happened in 1920. This is still important today because it set the trend for things to come.
