THESIS STATEMENT
Fashion in the 1920s was in a period known as the “roaring 20s” , this was also known as the era of the “flapper.” This decade was the beginning of spreading of women’s suffrage. The fashion of the 1920s however, is no longer relevant in modern fashion today.
INTRODUCTION
Fashion in the 1920s was followed after the end of World War I. This lead to drastic changes in fashion and the beginning of women’s suffrage. Women in the 1920s were characterized as free spirited and independent. Because of this, wore daring and revealing clothes that was unfit in society at the time.
WOMEN’S FASHION
During this era, housewives wore cotton dresses, but Flappers wore shorter, revealing, low-waisted dresses with bobbed cuts and hairstyles. These dresses were usually bright colored along with the scarves and stockings they wore. These outfits were often …show more content…
For women, the trends were art deco designs, “the boyish 'garconne' look and adoption of male clothing”, casual styles worn during the day, cloche hats and bobbed hairstyles, and fringed flapper dresses. These trends came during a time of modernism. Women wanted to become more sophisticated, unrestricted, and casual after the Victorian era. For men, the fashion trends were based off a prosperous era of women wanting to see men in modern clothes. This was because they wanted to see them in more “fashionable clothes that reflected their prosperity and position in society.” The fashion trends for men in the 1920s were the introduction to sportswear, formal styles of clothing, casual styles of clothing, and the “Zoot suit.” Informal wear during this time became popular because it was influenced by art movements that conveyed the “modern” look.
