Like the quote from Alexander McQueen, this new era, the 21 th century, there are no rules within fashion. Basically it’s very hard describing a certain style that identifies the fashion within this era. Instead of having the designers and the fashion brands deciding what to wear and not to wear, it´s now more about individuality and personal style, the common person, the everyday life person, the posh person, the very stylish person, and the trendy hipster, it´s all this kind of personalities that are fashion, affects fashion, what is to be designed at what´s not, and decides what fashion is.
This is exactly was fashion is for me, it’s about individuality and personal style. I like the huge variation of styles, the ability to choose, the large variation, and not to be chosen to wear a certain style, although we get affected by others whether we like it or not. In this new era it’s more commonly accepted to mix different styles, from different decades, secondhand clothes with more luxurious ones. This is what fashion is. I don’t like being into trends too much, because this can make you becoming just another person within the mass. Then fashion becomes like a uniform, a uniform that everyone wears, which I don’t think it should be like. If you get this far, then fashion own you, instead of you owning fashion. I think you should be the one to choose, not vice versa. Although this I’m very into trends, whether I want to admit it or if it’s something unconsciously. It’s very hard not being affected by fashion, by certain styles and by other people and what is trendy, whether you like it or not.
