Fast-Food Outputs
Question 1. Assume you are the manager of a fast-food restaurant. What are the outputs of your work unit? What are the activities required to produce those outputs? What are the inputs? When looking at a fast-food restaurant such as McDonalds, there are a couple main outputs that a manager needs to be aware of. The outputs include quality food and excellent service. For each of these outputs it is important to make sure that the right people are in the right positions and that they have the proper training to make sure that they can perform at their full potential. For the quality of food side it might be essential to have two crews of employees working. One crew may come in early and get the food ready for the day. The other crew could be the crew that actually makes the food for the customers. This could allow for food to be delivered faster and have a better quality at the same time. For the excellent service it is important that everyone works together to get the food out and to provide service that is excellent. It is important that everyone has the proper training that allows them to perform at the their best. The inputs that would be needed could be broken down into raw materials, equipment and human skills or personal. Raw materials would include the food, meats, potatoes, lettuce, onions, pickles, etc. It would also include any drink material including mixes, soda, cups, lids and straws. If any of these are missing or out of stock then it will directly affect the performance of the employees, the quality of food and the service. The equipment would consists of anything that is needed to make the raw materials into the product. This would include the ovens, fry machine, cash registers, storage compartments, etc. As far as human skill it is important to build a team that can provide the output of quality food and excellent service.     The owners are very important in McDonalds, because they’re the people that invest in the business and make sure that it runs smoothly to be able to give a good service and provide the customers with high quality food. They have to make sure that the each of the fast food restaurants are kept clean and designed well, to attract the customers and make them enjoy their time while having their food. This brings more costs with it; therefore the owners have to make sure that they have enough money when investing more money into the restaurants. They also have to make sure that McDonalds is fully equipped to be able to prepare the food that’s on the menu. When hiring new members of staff, they have to follow the procedures to make sure that they do it correctly. The people that they hire need to be suitable for the job and meet all of McDonald’s requirements and if failed to do so, it could have a big impact on the business and its overall success. Owners also need to make sure that all of the rules and regulations are followed so they don’t get into trouble for going against the law. If any of their employees don’t follow these rules, they are the ones to deal with it. The owners are in control of finance of the business and it’s budgeting.     1. Performance, Reliability and responsiveness, Serviceability, and Aesthetics are all significant dimensions of quality in fast food restaurants. First of all, the performance and serviceability of a fast food restaurant is very important because like the name states “fast food” is exactly that… fast! So in order for it to be considered a fast food establishment it if very important to keep up the flow of traffic in and out of the drive thru and the dining room in a timely and efficient manner without compromising the quality of the food. The second thing is to provide reliability and responsive services for a fast food restaurant such as customer service. If customer service is poor and the food isn’t prepared properly or your orders keep getting messed up then by their bad experience word of mouth will spread and it could drive people away from the establishment and they will begin searching for other places to eat. Come to find out they had a sewer leak and had to get it repaired but my family and I stopped going there for quite a long time until it was fixed. It is very important that the facility is clean without debris and trash around it and that even the inside facility is kept up with clean bathrooms, tables wiped and floors mopped.
