Fate In Romeo And Juliet Essay

When it comes to fate, there are two types of people. Those who believe it and those who don’t. The definition of fate, is the development of events beyond a person’s control; be destined to happen, to turn out, or act in a particular way. We see this definition put to use in both, “Oedipus the King”, and “Romeo and Juliet”. Is fate a real thing though? Or is it something we just see in books. Do we have control over everything that happens to us? Or is our life in the hands of “fate”. Everyone has their own opinion of whether fate is real or not. We were meant to be where we are right now, fate tells us one day that we will marry, but to who is our choice. Fate determines if we will be wealthy or not, but how we reach that is up to us. Was it fate that lead Romeo to Juliet? He didn’t chose to fall in love with her. In the beginning of the book, Romeo was in love with Rosaline, he believed that was the girl he was going to marry, but fate had other plans for him. I think that everyone has a choice for what they want to do in life and how they will do it, but the outcome will come back to fate. Just as how Romeo didn’t want any other woman besides Rosaline, but he falls in love with Juliet, and how Oedipus tries to escape his fate but runs right into it. You may think you’re doing the right thing in life, but really fate is just leading you into that direction. Just as when Romeo wanted to go to the Capulet dinner, to see his beautiful Rosaline, he meets Juliet. Whereas Oedipus believed he was escaping his fate by leaving Corinth, he actually ran right into it, because he did not know he was adopted. He thought he knew his biological parents.
