1.1 Background
The issue of fatherlessness has been around for many years, for the effects have been so vividly evident but no one seemed brave enough to put it on the forefront. The only role that has been taken into much consideration would be specifically that of the mother.
Approximately 25 years ago, Michael Lamb (1976) described fathers as the forgotten contributors to child development. However, much of what psychologists, childrearing experts, and popular culture have focused on has been the role of the mother, with the role of the father believed to be secondary in importance. We speak also of the fathers that are at home but turn a blind eye to their children’s lives, they are passive men who do not play a significant role in their children’s lives apart from financial provision. What are the effects of absent fathers on the boy and girl child?
1.3 Hypothesis
It is said that most of the fatherless children both girls and boys do not really turnout as good or rather “normal”, as society has expectations of every child. Over the past four decades, fatherlessness has emerged as one of our greatest social problems. They are more likely to end up in poverty or drop out of school, become addicted to drugs, have a child out of wedlock, or end up in prison (Jennifer Flood Eastin, B.S.Ed., M.Ed.).

In return our society at large is not battered as the situation gets worse and worse. It is also said this issue manifests itself more vividly in poor families/societies rather than in the middle or upper class societies.
All these signs are not only a result of being fatherless but it is one of the causes that has been overlooked by the society at large. As in most cases leads to promiscuity in young women as it is said that most of the women that are actually having intimate sexual relationships with older men are these young girls that have never had a father figure in their lives or total withdrawal from the male figure because some develop this anger/hatred toward the species and somehow that tends to lead to some being lesbians instead of embracing their femininity.
However becoming lesbian as much as being a criminal or give in to prostitution is not necessarily always the reason of not having a father it can be ones preferred choice but the absence of a father plays a very huge role in those choices one can make to become one of the above
