Fdr's First Inaugural Speech Analysis
On March 4, 1933, at the top of the Great Depression, Franklin Roosevelt made

his first inaugural speech in front of 100,000 people on Washington’s Capitol Plaza.

That’s when he said “Don’t fear anything but fear itself.” which would give hope to

Americans during the great depression. After FDR addressed his speech, the people

knew he was the right man to elect as president as he was gonna take a big bold step.

On the next day, FDR would declare a four day holiday for banks to stop people

from withdrawing their money from unstable banks. On March 9, Congress passed

Roosevelt’s Emergency Banking Act. Which made many banks close. Then he had the

Fireside chat which he told Americans to save their money. He would also tell them

The New deal would soon start to lose its popularity because of too much

discussion. The supreme court would have to neutralize the acts like the NRA and the

AAA so that FDR could protect the New deal. Many people would want the New deal

because of the poverty that was going on in the 30s and 40s and since WW2 started,

the people wouldn’t want to be involved because they think that the economy would go

bad again and poverty would rise and prices would go up. That’s why FDR tried to avoid going into or joining WW2 but GB needed help so FDR just sent equipment and

supplies as some loans so that after the war, he could some how get his supplies and

equipment back. From 1933-1941 about 8 years of battling the great depression, the

interest rates were high and everything seemed to be adjusted and back to normal.

Even the Economy went down as well because of the new deal. Even though the

economy wasn't like the one back in the 20s. It was enough for the people to stay
