Fear (Riding the Tiger)

Many people in today’s society allow fear to overcome and control them. One example of this is a fear of being looked down upon. In the allegory,Riding the tiger”, by Eve Bunting, Danny fears the tiger by the end of the story. In the beginning of the story, Danny thinks everyone likes and respects the tiger, however, as the story progresses, he later realizes the tiger is misgiving. After the police officer talks to him, Danny says to himself, “But the officer and Mr. Muto made me a bit edgy” (2). This shows that early on Danny realizes there is something wrong about the tiger. This is important because later on Danny wishes he would have gotten off earlier. When Danny tries to get off the tiger the first time, Danny tells the reader, “But I wasn't honored anymore. I had to get off,here, where Ferdy was still watching and might help me”(4). This shows that he is second guessing himself why he got on . This is important because it shows the tiger is betě noirě (feared). As a result of the time Danny had with the tiger, Danny sees the tiger is feared.

My Achilles Heel My Achilles heel is writing. There are ways I can overcome this. I can pay attention in English class and stop being a disruption. I can work harder and start doing my work. I can also seek help. These are some ways I can do better in writing essays. The first way i can overcome my Achilles heel is to pay attention in class. To start paying attention in class I have to stop talking to my seat partner and start listening. I can also stop being a disruption by not calling out, by not making jokes and by just not talking unless called on. This is one way I can over come my achilles heel, which brings me to my next idea. I can also work harder in English class to overcome my Achilles heel. To work harder I must actually do homework. I cant “forget it” at home or at school. I must also write it down in my agenda everyday. I also need to bring pencils home so i can do it. That is another way I can overcome my Achilles heel. The last way i can overcome my Achilles heel is to seek help when I need it. To seek help I must ask questions if i don’t understand. I can also look it up if no one is there to help. A third way to help me with this strategy is to ask my desk partner or if I’m at home I can ask my brother or mother. That is the last way I can overcome my Achilles heel. The three ways I can use to overcome my Achilles heel is to pay attention in English class, work harder, and seek help. As long as I keep using these strategies I can overcome my Achilles heel.
