Puning Cave is said to be a home of our ancestors, our Katipuneros during the Spanish colonization and a Japanese hideout during World War II. Puning Cave has been discovered seven years ago by the locals together with some treasure hunters. And until now it has been preserved by the locals with the help of the government. Puning comes from the two words: “Punay”, a kind of bird that is endemic in the place and a big tree called “Kamuning”, that was present outside of the cave. The cave has a called El nido because of its white sand together with the Nido birds that present in the cave but it is prohibited to gather their nests for breeding purposes. Fruit Bats can be seen also inside the cave. Puning is like many other caves that has stalactites and stalagmites and extraordinary rock formations.
