A Eurosta solidaginis, also known as the Golden Rod Gall Fly, is an insect that lives in a Solidago atlissma/ canadis. The female Gall Fly has an ovipositor which implants eggs in the Golden Rod plant. Eggs are implanted by the mother onto the apical meristem. At the apical meristem the larva releases a chemical that stimulates the host goldenrod which in return forms the gall (Abrahamson, Kenneth, McCrea, Whitwell, and Vernieri 1991). The gall acts as a protective barrier for the Eurosta Solidagnis. The larva transforms from larvae to pupa in the gall. The Eurosta solidaginis predators include other insects and birds. The ovipositon, which is the placing of the eggs, occurs in mid- late May (Abrahamson, Sattler, McCrea, and Weis 1989). The gall start to appear about 3 weeks after the oviposition, and they finish growing, reaching their full size three to four weeks later. The…
For this project I had observed the coolest bug balls on earth, the roly- poly. They are commonly known as the roly-poly, also pill bug, and wood lice. Its scientific name is Armadilidum vulgare. It is actually not an insect, it is an isopod ( a type of arthropod). It’s genus is Armadilidum, it’s Phylum is Arthopoda, and Subphylum is Crustacea. I have observed that the exoskeleton is a blue-gray, it is an invertebrate, it’s mouth, antennae and eyes are located on it’s head, and it rolls into a perfect sphere as defense when being disturbed or threatened. It has 2 pairs of antennae (one barely visible), it has 2 eyes, it has 7 pairs of jointed legs, and it’s about 3/8 inches long.…
The green stink bug is considered a pest to most people, but most people don’t know about it. The stink bug has a bright green color with narrow sides and can be spotted or striped. These marking can be black, yellow, white, or red. It has bilateral symmetry, where a line can be drawn down the middle and each side looks the same. From the tip of the head to the tail end, the size varies between 13mm-19mm and it has an oval like shape.…

Bed bugs are one of the most dreaded parasites in any house. They suck blood from humans and as well act as disease vectors. They've also been a sign of an unkempt setting or home. Bed bug extermination is necessary at any time bed bugs are spotted in a home because it will be important to deal with the bed bug problem once it really is noticed than later. One from the reasons you need bed pester extermination immediately you spot the first is because bed bugs multiply extremely fast. Anytime they find somewhere to such blood, the next thing is reproduction and it will take just a short time before a whole home is full infested while using the bed bugs. In fact, because of the time you notice one cargo area bug, there usually are…
The species that is the direct variable in this experiment is the Cranefly larvae. This species does not stay as a larvae its entire life. The Cranefly larvae is one of the many species that goes through a cycle of different stages in its life. Since the larvae go through 4 different stages it is called complete metamorphosis. The first stage the species has being in an egg. After the mother Craneflies eggs are fertilized, they then release their eggs over temperate waters. As the eggs are released they fall into the water and will descend into the stream bed. After they complete this stage of their life then the Craneflies hatch out of their eggs as larvae. This is the stage in which the species are in for the experiment. During this…
All animals try to adapt to the environment to survive. The real question is why do living organisms react to environmental factors? For example, a chameleon will change colors to hide from predators. Bears hibernate in the winter to conserve energy because of the food shortages. Likewise, pill bugs avoid light and try to make homes in dark, damp environments and eat decaying plant and animal matter. The reason pill bugs prefer dark and damp environments is because they behave negatively to phototaxis, which is the response to light, and have a partially positive behavior towards hydrotaxis, which is the response to moisture. The reason I say partial behavior is because they do not prefer to live in an all-dry habitat, but they also do not find large bodies of water an ideal habitat as well. In this specific scenario, the object of the…
Before the Industrial Revolution in England in the 1800s, the population of the Peppered Moth (Biston betularia ), was mostly a light color with dark spots which helped them blend in with England’s trees. The trees had dark trunks with light white colored lichen. Only a small percentage of dark colored moths existed in this population. The few dark colored moths were effortlessly picked out by birds and other visual predators because they were easily seen against the light background of the trees. When the Industrial Revolution started, the smoke from England’s coal plants darkened the trees by covering them with layers of soot, and killing off the lichen, and then exposing the dark trunks. Now the light colored moths stood out and were easily identified by predators. Over time, the dark colored moths which became best suited for the environment, kept reproducing until the new majority of the Peppered Moth population was almost all dark in color. The difference between Peppered Moths and other species that have undergone natural selection is that in the late 1900s, Britain and other countries started to clean up the air to reduce the amount of pollution, causing the light colored lichen on the trees to grow again and the…
San Ramon bed bugs are a common pest. They are brown in color. However, their bodies can swell and turn a reddish color after they eat. San Ramon bed bugs do not fly, but they can move quickly. Bed bugs can also develop quickly and produce as many as three generations in one year. That is why a bed bug infestation can develop quickly.…

We need to get rid of or stop zombie flies because we need bees to grow our food easier. First “When a female zombie fly lands on a honey bee she injects fly eggs into it.” This is saying that the fly injects the eggs into the bee. Next,”Soon after the larvae hatch within the bee and feed on its insides.” Doing so the larvae kill the bee. Finally, “When the larvae are ready they burst out of the bees body.” This is saying that the bee is really dead. Therefore, we need to stop or get rid of zombie flies because we need bees to help us grow crops…
As we enter the digital age, one thing is for sure and whether we like it or not this “dragonfly” will not be the last technology device we will see.
