Intro- In the Laboratory and Macbeth they are both written by male writers who both create believable female characters.Throughout both of these the writers'William Shakespeare' and 'Robert Browning' used techniques to create strong feelings to intrest the audience. In the Laboratory we see the character making revenge by poisioning her partners lover to make her husband suffer for humilating her.Where as in Macbeth we see Macbeth and Lady Macbeth in conflict on whether Macbeth should follow his instinct or obey his partners instructions.
Lady Macbeth-
Strong feeling of 'Power'-Shakespeare uses the technique of using'harsh words' to create effect upon the audience. By making Lady Macbeth say' have pluck'd my nipple from his boneless gums,and dash'd the brains out'.Not only does Shakespeare use alliteration to add tension and effect he also uses voilent verbs.Trying to make the point by saying that she would love her baby as much as she could,but i because she has such a strong love for her husband and she was in the situatuion she made a promise of killing her own baby for him,she would go along with it,even if it was something like killing her own baby to follow her husband's word and make him happy.
Strong feeling of 'Anger'-Shakespeare then goes on to using the technique of using rhetorical questions and personification. Lady Macbeth quates 'was the hope drunk? Wherein you dress'd yourself? hath it slept since?. Shakespeare cleverly uses the structure to add effect upon the readers/auduience.This allows the audience to feel Lady Macbeths feelings of anger and frustration. By using the rhetorical questions it shows she doesnt want Macbeth to get a word in forcing Macbeth to listen to her. Implying he is weak was another tactic Shakespeare used on Lady Macbeth to help her get her own way,to proceed furter in killing the king.
