The issue of slavery in America is a vastly documented phenomenon that captivates the interest of nearly everyone with a slight interest in history. It is a dark and fascinating subject yet still an overlooked part of our young nation’s history. Though there are countless books and articles written on the topic, few provide such compelling and brutally truthful accounts of the hardships endured by slaves as Harriett Jacobs in Incidents of a Slave Girl. Within this novel, she attempts to describe her situation under the laws dictating her life as a slave. She writes as to persuade the reader not to judge her as she tells them all she has bared in her life. As a young girl when she became a slave, she was subject to harassment, particularly by sexual means, more so than her male equals. Through the course of her book, Jacobs describes her predicament and attempts to survive and surpass it.…

When a person chooses to alter their physical appearance in any way, it can be seen as a vain endeavor. Even if the physical changes do not involve a physician or plastic surgery, the general public tends to have a negative view on the subject. This, however, is a backwards form of thinking. When a person decides to become physically fit, through diet and exercise, they are not only improving how they look, but their overall internal health. In the case of penis enlargement, a man is not only increasing his penis size, but also his ability to perform in the bedroom.…

    U.S.A's Fast Food Industry

Fast food restaurants represent one of the largest segments of the food industry with over 200,000 restaurants and $120 billion in sales in the U.S. alone. Fast food restaurants, also known as quick service restaurants, are noted for their short food preparation time. Some of the largest players in this category include international giants like McDonald 's and Yum! Brands, national chains such as Wendy 's and Burger King and regional players like Jack In The Box and Sonic. Firms within the fast food industry fall under the market structure of perfect competition. Market structure is a classification system for the key traits of a market. The characteristics of perfect competition include: large number of buyers and sellers, easy entry to and exit from the market, homogeneous products, and the firm is the price taker. Many fast food franchises fit all or most of these characteristics. Competition within the industry as well as market supply and demand conditions set the price of products sold. For example, when Wendy 's introduced its $.99 value menu, several other companies implemented the same type of changes to their menu. The demand for items on Wendy 's value menu was so high because they were offering the same products as always, but at a discounted price. This change in market demand basically forced Wendy 's competition to lower prices of items on their menu, in order to maintain their share of the market. The previous example illustrates the elasticity of the fast food industry. Supply and demand set the equilibrium price for goods offered by franchises within the industry. Competitors of Wendy 's must accept the prices established by the consumer demand for the value menu. If consumers didn 't respond so positively to Wendy 's changes, other firms wouldn 't have had to adjust prices. On the flip side of this concept, there is no need for franchises to further…

This type of disease is diagnosed when a woman reports an unusual vaginal discharge; the doctor will ask her a series of routine questions to help distinguish mild from more serious conditions. In the exam the doctor notes the appearance of the vaginal lining and cervix. The doctor will also perform a manual exam of the ovaries and uterus. The cervix is examined for tenderness, which might indicate a more serious infection. The doctor may also collect samples to test for Gonorrhea or Chlamydia. By examining the discharge under the microscope can help distinguish bacterial vaginosis from yeast vaginitis (candidacies) and trichomonas (a certain type of sexually transmitted infection). How they find out about this by…

I know that you are thinking, "Museum of Sex?! What was this person thinking?!" But I've been to most of the museums in the city - at least twice. I thought something new and refreshing would be good for me. Well, to tell you the truth, I've always wanted to go to the Museum of Sex. The curiosity of what it might contain, and the excitement of finally being old enough to go to this museum was so great, that my shameful embarrassment of even thinking of going to this museum was suppressed to the minimal. Also, the opportunity was there! Two of my guy friends were planning on going to the Museum of Sex that weekend and I thought to myself, ‘why not?' And that's…

Female genital mutilation (FGM) is not a morally justified practice. It is an unnecessary procedure that has no medical health benefits to the girls and women it is being performed on. According to Utilitarianism, we should produce the greatest amount of pleasure for the greatest number affected. Utilitarian’s also believe that we should alleviate the greatest amount of pain and suffering for the greatest number affected. Based on Utilitarian grounds, FGM has no medical health benefits and it is a completely unnecessary act on females in this culture. I strongly oppose Female genital mutilation to the fact that it violates two important human rights, namely: the right to have a surgery or not; and the right to keep one’s own gender identity. Another reason why I stand against female genital mutilation is the fact that I think that female genital mutilation is a strong gender issue leaning in favor of traditional men who want to control their many wives while they take turns to sleep with them, since female genital mutilation reduces the urge for women to have sex. Finally, I say no to female genital mutilation because it passes health threats to its victims such as hemorrhages, shock, abscesses, urinary tract infections, HIV, small benign tumors, etc.…

All over the world female cutting, or circumcisions, are being performed for various reasons with numbers currently reaching around 140 million alive and affected (Crockett 2015). With that high of a number and the numbers increasing around three million more affected per year a large world-wide controversy has been started (Crockett 2015). In most circumstance the reasoning for female circumcisions is religious and part of one’s culture and heritage (Crockett 2015). Some are required to have it performed and the procedures and after effects are painful (Crockett 2015). That hasn’t stopped some countries from banning it like others have, deeming it an act of violence towards girls and women (Crockett 2015). So is female cutting actually an act of violence or should the bans be lifted and why is it performed exactly?…
