Rose is married to Troy, whom they have a a daughter and a son through their marriage name Cory and her stepson Lyons and a stepson who Troy had before Rose. Rose is portrayed a powerful and positive woman who is loyal to her family and husband. She is the woman who manages her husband’s money weekly when he gives her the paycheck. Although she receives the money from her husband, she wants more. She argues with her husband about her feelings, stating on Act II, Scene II, Rose: “What about mw? When’s my time to enjoy life?” Troy: “I don’t know what to tell you, Rose. I’m doing the best I can.” Rose: “You ain’t been home from work but time enough to change your clothes and run out… and you wanna call that the best you can do?” Based on this conversation, it shows that Rose argues defensively of how she feels about herself. Limitations existed for African-American women, and all she wanted was she wanted to find a man who would protect her and do the best for her. She is a strong woman because even though her husband cheats on her, Rose did not walk out on her. She stood by his side and also because she is limited by the time.
