Feminist Argumentative Analysis
If men and women could get beyond the fundamental biases they inherit from the past and actually understand what females are capable of then maybe they would see the need for a feminist platform that empowers women. To many, women may seem emotional beings, not capable of making sound decisions, but females are caregivers; they may well care more about a society’s well-being than men do. Men are more into being on top of the hierarchy and gaining power over others. This has led to such disasters as war, colonialism, and the exploitation of the environment. Feminists are often perceived as man-haters and feminism seems to many like a militant platform that puts women against men. The very term feminism places the focus only on women and puts off many people, male and female. In fact, as de Beauvoir points out, many women reject the feminist platform. It would seem to me that we need to get rid of the notion of women versus men, and pursue a platform of humanism that advocates for fairness for all human beings regardless of gender. If we could move beyond the negative connotations of feminism to engage a humanistic platform that celebrates the true equality of all humans regardless of gender, men would partake in such a platform. Furthermore, in my opinion women would engage with and support the feminist platform if we did not focus so exclusively on feminism. Doing so creates negative tension and a sort of war between the sexes that many people do not want to engage in. If we create a platform that looks out for the best interest of men, women and children we could get beyond our resistance to feminism and achieve a balance between man and woman, and society. When men realize that females aren’t the problem but rather their ego and ignorance of power is, then they would have a clear mind and collaborate with females so as to better
