Frankenstein by Mary Shelley
During the time period of the 1800s, men usually were favoured more than women; it was a male- dominated society. In Frankenstein, Shelley constructs a novel in which Victor plays the role of God by messing with the dark arts, a crime no being should do. In addition, Victor, upon creating his creature, cannot behave like a mother to him as he is not a woman. Shelley characterizes Victor in this way as she would like to tell others that the role of mother is not as easy as it seems; giving up the time and attention is necessary and a woman is perfectly capable of accomplishing this.
In the novel, women are treated unjustly; take for example Justine. She was just an innocent
