Fences Compare And Contrast

Each play has a lot to do with what is going on around them. In “Fences,” the characters express a constant need to break free from the past because they act as anchors holding them down .The “ fence” acting physical force that surrounds the house. In “The Piano Lesson” follows a few different families overcoming key issues through an object, which the piano is represented with spirits believed to be held within its mystical
Troy pushed Rose away by cheating on her . A lack of of commitment translates into lack of commitment anywhere else, which mirrors into a not finished fence. In the final scene Troy does finish the fence thus symbolizes as the family being complete and united. In “ The Piano Lesson” , the symbol of the story is an incarnate of the family history . It takes on different meanings as its past through generations . A gift purchase through the exchanging of slaves . The symbolic use of this object puts a lot of emphasis on the interchangeability of that of a person and that object under the system is slavery . For example ,Boy Willie wanting to sell the piano for a profit like he believed Doaker wanted . But just like Rose from “Fences “ she holds onto something positive such as the families memories. . As priestess of the Piano ,being able to conjure the spirits carved into the Piano cause they believe it holds a great deal of history. In the end , realizing that it’s the piano being there , is what makes his family whole and comes to understand its value beyond money
