He was “looking for a guy with strong values and a strong personality”. Troy keeps distance between him and his family. Cory: "Tell Mama I'll be back for my things. "Troy: "They'll be on the other side of that fence."(p.89) The fence is a barrier between him and his son. I think this doesn’t show good character, he should just get along with his son. He should know that Cory is not going to be a perfect child. This doesn’t relate to baseball all that much, but I do think it would affect him in a negative way. Troy takes a huge football opportunity away from Cory. I don’t think that is the right thing to do. He should let his son do the sports that he wants and let him be happy. In the book, Cory asks Troy why he doesn't like him. Troy get’s really angry, saying that “ It’s my job. It’s my responsibility! Not ‘cause I like you!(p.38). think it shows a negative side of…

The story "The Devil and Tom Walker" is a story about a man who lives an immoral life of greed. Walker lives in a solemn, wooded, quiet area of New England. Walker runs into the devil and sees that the devil is cutting down someone else's timber. The evil is shown, by the devil in how he is premeditating the murder of "Deacon Peabody". Walker contemplates this meeting with the devil, and recognizes that wealth is the first priority for him. Tom Walker's wife was filled with greed and wanted to acquire the gold that the devil had promised. Walker hadn't obliged to his wife, and due to his wife's acute greediness set out on her own journey to acquire that gold. She had been killed because of her greed, and lack of morals for self-prosperity, which resulted in her death. This is an important example of the use of evil within "The Devil and Tom Walker". Walker is told from the devil that he could earn money through usury and extortion. Walker commits to usury and makes a generous sum of money. Walker has no repentance for such a sin and continues to his usury. The evil accumulates in the story as Walker accumulates more and more money, resulting from more and more greed. The accumulation of this money leads to a climactic point where Walker is fed up with his accumulation of money, and asks to be taken by the devil. Consequently, the devil "takes" Walker to hell. The evil is fluently represented by Walker "selling himself to the devil", and his inability to understand that material possessions couldn't be taken to the next world.…

Troy’s dreams are thwarted due to accounts of racism that occur in his life and he refuses to acknowledge that any racial progress has been made. Although he is constantly told he is too old to play baseball, Troy sees it in different way. To Troy ability has nothing to do with age, he believes the single reason for him not making it in the major leagues is racism. Troy’s longings to become a baseball player are obstructed by oppression and discrimination. Like many black athletes, Troy was not given the same opportunities as white people were, which strengthened his already adamant view toward the idea of one’s skill vs. the color of one’s skin “I’m talking about if you could play ball then they ought to have let you play. Don’t care what color you were” (Wilson 18). Troy gets frustrated with…

Troy Maxson was a great baseball player, at least according to his friend Bono. Although he played brilliantly for the "Black Leagues," he was not allowed to on the "white" teams, unlike Jackie Robinson. The success of Robinson and other black players is a sore subject for Troy. Because he was "born at the wrong time," he never earned the recognition or the money which he felt he deserved. Troy was a victim to the hard life of a rising baseball superstar, but since he was black he was cut short and because of this he is restricting Cory to play football. Cory fall victim to a lot of Troy’s animosity towards the sports…
