Feral children are children who have spent most of their lives in the wild, without any contact with other humans. Cases of feral children are rare, but are of interest from a scientific and educational point of view. Feral children go through some of the most traumatic experiences that we as human could not endure.
As stated by Jamie Myles, on Feral Children and the Dangers They Face On Apr 17, 2009 “The damage to these precious children is profound. Some never developed the ability to speak. Others are unable to form natural bonds with anyone. Even the scientist's who have studied these kids have dehumanized them just by turning them into test subjects instead of meeting the most basic need, the need to be accepted and loved”. In addition, as explain by Dr. Bruce D. Perry, on the Effects of Child Neglect, on the
Oprah Winfray Show on March 3, 2009, “Traumatic experiences can have a devastating impact on the child, altering their physical, emotional, cognitive and social development. The acute post-traumatic period is characterized by an attempt by the child to reorganize, reevaluate and restore their pre-traumatic world. Many of the emotional, behavioral and cognitive signs and symptoms of the acute post-traumatic period are due to these efforts”.
As bizarre as it may sound these are some of the issues that we are forced to be reckoned with.
