General Purpose : To Inform Specific Purpose : To inform my audience of what Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disease is.
Central Idea : To inform my audience of what the effects of Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disease is and how to treat it.
Introduction :
I. Attention Getter : Did you know that Fetal Alcohol Syndrome is a disability? Just as we accommodate people who transport in a wheelchair or any other disabilities, we have to make some accommodations for those with FASD.
II. Orient Audience : Today I will be speaking to you about Fetal Spectrum Alcohol Disorder (FASD). What causes FASD, how FASD is diagnosed, and treatments for FASD.
III. Need to Know: According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) there is no exact numbers of how many people have FASD. CDC studies seem to think that 0.2 - 1.5 cases occur every 1,000 live births and some studies think the rate is more likely 0.5 - 2.0 cases per 1,000 live births.
Between 2006-2010 among pregnant women, the highest estimates of alcohol use were among the ages of 35-44.
IV. Establish Credibility : To gather my information and facts on FASD I went online to search for relevant articles and speeches on the subject. I also did the research as a result of a personal reason. I have adopted a child that shows symptoms of FASD and I wanted as much information on FASD so I could better understand what I can do as a parent to help her.
V. Preview Main Points : In this speech I will
A) Inform you of what FASD is.
B) Inform you of the diagnosis of FASD.
