EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
This report is being generated on data gathered from the Municipal Health Management Team (MHMT) and the Municipal Assembly of Bolgatanga. Bolgatanga municipality has a population of about 154,185 with a population growth rate of 1.1%. It has nine subdistricts namely; Bolga-central, Zuarungu-moshie, Sherigu, Gambibgo, Sumbrungu, Sokabisi, Yorogo, Kunkua, Plaza, sub-districts.
The data revealed that Bolgatanga Municipality has high skilled deliveries, sanitation problems, portable water problems, high still births and neonatal deaths, prevalence of STI’s especially HIV/AIDS and Nutritional deficiencies. Though the year was generally a successful one, some challenges persisted. The slow pace of increase in FP performance, High IPTp DOR, low CMAM case detection are still a source of worry and measures will be implemented to improve the situation and sustain the good perforning areas in 2012 and beyond.
Despite several challenges being faced by the Bolgatanga Municipal Health Directorate ranging from human resource issues to inadequate funding and dilapidated infrastructure, the MHD made significant gains during the period under review. Several activities and best practices were therefore employed to ensure the realization of remarkable improvements in these areas in particular and in all other service delivery areas in general.
OPD attendance over the last seven years has seen a steady increase from 0.9 in 2006 to 2.7 per capita in 2012. This indicates that the level of access to OPD services has improved tremendously over the period. Largely due to the introduction of the National Health Insurance and the increase in the number of Health facilities particularly the CHPS compounds made a great impact
