Over the course of my day at Shepherdstown elementary I learned a lot more than I thought would even be possible. I witnessed both the good and bad moments during my one short day. Mrs. Austin seemed to have it all together, she was an amazing role model in the classroom and showed me what I should and shouldn’t do in certain situations. Observing the classroom showed me that I need to learn a lot of vital information throughout the program at Shepherd in order to be able to become successful in the classroom one day. The teacher ignored most of what was going on and mostly focused on teaching what she was obligated to do for the day with no disregard to the students that wanted to learn. I found that there was a lack of classroom management for the same reasons as the climate. No assertion in rules, no discipline, no rewards, and not trying to get the class out of there cliques to work with others. As a second year nursing student, I felt more confident in Simulation Learning Experience (SLE) practicum in that, I could integrate my nursing knowledge, skills, and clinical experience into the practice.
