Fifty Years

Fifty Years Ago Fifty years ago the world was a far different place than it is today. Yes there have been many different changes, new technology, better medical care, and improvement in research. However, I believe that the world was a far better place in 1963 to live and raise a family than today in 2013. Yes we had wars going on back then as we do today. And unfortunately during that time you had the Vietnam War, the fight for civil rights, and President John F. Kennedy assassinated. So why then do I believe that the world was a far better place back then? First of all the pace of life was slower. People weren’t in such a rush to get places. Now with so many people trying to get here or there in a rush every day there are either minor or major accidents on the freeways and highways in the morning with people rushing to work. You have more incidents of road rage with people going off on others for no reason or just the slightest offences. You have major sales at certain times of the year and people now are willing to run over people or fight with people to get that one item that they must have. When a sports figure puts out the new shoes for people to buy, even if they are just getting vouchers, they are knocking over the doors to the business and causing damage to it. Why is it that, material things have become more important to people now days? Take Thanksgiving, it should be a time to sit and spend with your family and friends. But now it’s being taken over by department stores, doing Black Friday events earlier and earlier each year. Now people want to get to that sale in time so they can get that one item that they just have to have at a good price instead of spending time with their families. My next reason is that the cost of living was far lower. Price of gas and food wasn’t near as much as it is today. Back then bread was 22 cents whereas today it’s anywhere from $1 to $3 depending on what you get. Gas was around 30 cents a gallon whereas now it’s
