Figurative language relates to the use of sentences and phrases in a unconventional non literal way. It impacts your and many others understanding on a short story, book or poem. It also changes our perspective on how we think of characters, and it even changes our judgement on what it means to be a hero. Many authors use figurative language to make unfamiliar objects and situations more relatable for the reader. Figurative language is more often used in short stories to make the characters and storylines come to life in a reader's head. There are a wide variety of examples that show how figurative language impacts my understanding of characters and how you view them. Authors use this to show unique ideas and create a sort of impression. Figurative language is mainly used to enriching a reader's literary experience throughout the piece. Authors often enhance the text by comparing one thing to another for special effect, and a more wild understanding of the topic. For example the text states "'Athena, her eyes flashing bright, exulted, “Father, son of Cronus, our high and mighty king! If now it really pleases the blissful gods that wise Odysseus shall return, home at last let us dispatch the guide and giant-killer Hermes down to Ogygia Island, down to announce at once to the nymph with lovely braids our fixed decree: Odysseus journeys home —the exile must return!"'.
