Figurative Language In The Short Story 'Flowers'

Out of the three short stories, “Flowers” contained the best description. The use of figurative language is important in descriptive writing because it helps the reader to visualize. In the first paragraph of the text it says “made each day a golden surprise.” The use of this metaphor allows the reader to have a more vivid picture. Therefore, making it a better choices than just saying “made every day good.” Another important part of descriptive writing is the use of strong adjectives. A great example of this can be found in the third paragraph, “thin black scale of soil.” These adjectives are more powerful than just saying “dark dirt.” Consequently, the description the author choose to use is much more effective at creating a clear image.
The last example of descriptive writing in “Flowers” is when the author is describing the corps and the noose. The use of additives is very abundant in this section, an example is, “ Frayed, rotted, bleached, and frazzled--barely there--but spinning restlessly in the breeze.” To conclude, Flowers had the best description because it applies the use of figurative language and meaningful adjectives.
