One of my favorite movies is Dances With Wolves. Dances With Wolves is a 1990 American epic western film directed and produced by Kevin Costner. Kevin Costner plays the star character, Lieutenant, John J. Dunbar. He is wounded in the American Civil War. He chose to try to commit suicide over having his foot amputated by taking a horse and riding it up to and along the confederate soldiers’ front lines. They failed to shoot him. The Union Army attacks the line while the confederate soldiers are distracted and the Union Army wins the battle. Dunbar survives and is allowed to recover properly, receives a citation for bravery, and is awarded Cisco, the horse who carried him, as well as his choice of posting. John Dunbar requests a transfer…
After the civil right movement, films such as Unforgiven, Posse, Silverado, and even Django Unchained paid tribute to a 1970’s Blaxploitation era. Still movies like Unforgiven, Silverado, and Posse had black leads dying, but they died in a more heroic form. The 1993 film Posse reversed the skin color of the actors from the film The Wild Bunch. The film is basically a re-vision of the film The Wild Bunch. The film Posse is also a contemporary western settings, classic west themes, classic firearms, and ideas, but staring black actors now. Also to note, rapper Big Daddy Kane’s character Father Time soon posing as Ku Klux Klan member, to rescue his group from trouble. Father Time may have got this scene from another famous film from the…
This film is closely based on the true events of the shameful Tuskegee project, for which the few survivors received a formal apology from President Clinton in 1997. Heat-haze and sultry music evoke the sensuality of the poverty-stricken, deep south.…

Charlie in the Chocolate Factory, Big Fish, Edward Scissorhands. All famous movies directed by Tim Burton, a dark and mysterious director. Burton has an odd sense of style, which is used to captivate characters emotions and sense suspicions. Burton is a talented director and takes many things into consideration before directing a film. In many films directed by Burton, he uses shots and framing, non-diegetic sound, and camera angles to create mood.…
Conrad Jarrett is the protagonist of this film. He is a teenage boy who has just came back home after staying in a psychiatric hospital for a few months. He was placed in said psychiatric hospital because he had wanted to commit suicide. Now that he is back home, Conrad feels distant from his friends and family members. We find out later in the film that Conrad is actually dealing with post-traumatic stress which was brought on by a sailing accident that took his own brother’s life.…

In the movie The Rookie, directed by John Lee Hancock, the director tells a story about a high school baseball coach from Texas named Jimmy Morris. Morris’s dream throughout his life was to make it to the big leagues and play with the very best in the game. He faced multiple challenges that tried to hold him back from his dream. One of the challenges he faced was his dad, his father disapproved of him playing baseball and didn’t support him playing at a young age. Another big challenge was the town Morris’s family moved to, they didn’t care for baseball and there was nowhere to play. In the end, an injury ended his career and he knew it was time to give it up. Eventually, Morris got married and had three children,…

The movie The Avatar touched upon many different topics we discussed in class this year. But these five topics (Ecosystem’s flow of energy, Modified Organisms, Developed vs Undeveloped Nations, Dependence of Species, and Animal Populations) were easily spotted in the duration of this film.…
Flashback to the summer of 1977, the United States had just celebrated its bi-centennial, Jimmy Carter was in the White house, and the king of rock and roll was in his last days. A bright eyed and bushy tailed young filmmaker named George Lucas was about to launch his newly created project on the world, “Star Wars”. Lucas, not a pedigreed filmmaker by no means, is given the greenlight by 20th century Fox and the budget of 11 million dollars to film his creation. The film was released on Memorial Day weekend of that year, and we all know the rest is history.…
Biographically themed movie productions continue to envelop the Hollywood landscape – serving as a means to reenact and interpret a majority of history’s most memorable moments (for better or worse). In the last month alone, depictions of Bobby Fisher (Pawn Sacrifice) and Whitey Bulger (Black Mass) are just two examples of cinematic incarnations that have served to entertain and semi-education observers.…
Wild animals are not friends of human. Treadwell put all his heart to the cause of protecting the bears. He repeated in his films for many times that he loved them and he was willing to die for them. He tended to anthropomorphize them like many people do to the dogs and cats, but he forgot they were not those tame pets. He touched bears in a way that seemed to irritate them. He maybe had a belief and confidence that the bears also saw him as their friend and treated him differently. But in fact they didn't. In…

Film Critic Hossein Aghababa stated in moviequotesandmore that “The movie (the great debaters) is explicit enough on the issue of racial discrimination.” Throughout The Great Debaters (2007), Denzel Washington illustrates racial discrimination as the main theme. The setting of the movie, the nature of the characters, and the high stance of education are some of the primary examples that represent the main theme.…
