Today, we still see our own Illinois politicians who resemble Senator Paine, who compromises his ethics in order to accomplish some greater good that also brings great profits to him and friends. Yet, for every politician that lied or went to jail the next one comes in with the promise to shake things up. Failed promises to make big changes and yet they succumb to the same bureaucracy as many of our politicians do. However, lets not forget about oil lobbyists who keep alternative fuels from being pursued, or how tobacco lobbyists push to keep the truth about addiction from the public, and of course the corruption of our pharmaceutical industry, and our politicians who took monetary gifts for personal advancement. Therefore, have we learned anything from “Mr. Smith Goes to Washington” or have we pocketed the conversations it for now? With an election every few years someone new comes along to make us think changes are coming and the media plays a strong role in our citizens views.
