At the beginning of the movie the member gather at a camp that to try and be part of the team that will have the opportunity to participate in the 1980 winter Olympics and represent the United States in the sport of hockey. It was interesting to see that the coach was not there to be there friend he was there to train a team to have a chance to play in the Olympics and make a fool out of themselves and if they were lucky then maybe defeat the teams that were participating. The training was brutal and the team started off not carrying about the others, they just cared about themselves and that they will make the team since there was limited amount of spots available. The though process that the players had was similar to what was going on in

In 1980, The United States ice hockey team had a dream. A dream to finally do the unthinkable at the Olympic Winter Games. To accomplish this, the United States had to come together as one unit and flee to victory. In fact, their victory against the Soviet Union was so incredible, that directors and filmmakers created a movie about this marvelous win. The movie is called “Miracle.” One person that was mentioned quite a bit in the movie is head coach Herb Brooks. In the movie, there are many famous things that the United States had accomplished, but one of the most famous standings from that movie is the inspirational speech coach Herb Brooks gave to his fellow hockey players. “Great moments are born from great opportunity. And that's what you have here tonight, boys.”(Brooks) This speech became a phenomenon to many athletes and coaches around the world. All of the hard work and passion that both the coaches and the players put forth towards the team and each other was what made winning possible. Many people doubted the United States, and they had a very rough…

To start off, during the film, “Brooklyn Castle”, all the members of the team had to do their part on their team to win. As an example in the film Pobo said to Patrick, “You are a part of this team, so you have to do your best.” Which shows how hard the team works, and how the teammates want everyone to win. Another example that shows how all the members of the team had to do their part on their team to win is when Pobo lost one of the tournaments, and everyone was there to support him. Even though they knew that they had a lower chance of winning as a…

The 1980's USA Hockey Team was composed of twenty young men, who were able to boost patriotism within the United States during the Cold War era in a way that no other person or group has been able to create since then. This boost of patriotism came from their astonishing victory against the Soviet Union in a hockey game during the Olympics. This victory would result in impacting the United States in more than sport supremacy but rather in all aspects of intentional affairs. The film Miracle directed by Gavin O'Connor and the book The Boys of Winter by Wayne coffin recreated this “story about a coach with a vision, a team of patriotic kids from mostly working-class families who were prepared to make sacrifices for the unknown, and a nation…

Chapter fourteen was mainly about sports announcing. This chapter was placed in the book to help the production crew know what the talent will be doing. The talent must know their role and know what the director and producer are expecting of them. The play-by-play can call a sporting event with the action and the color commentator made the commentating better by adding important facts. Research is something the talent is responsible for so that they are familiar with the event. Sportscaster figure out ways to compliment one another. Commentating normally is where the play-by-play person talks and determines when the color announcer will speak. Interviews are important and an essential part of a production. 1) One of the issues is the lack of cohesiveness and willingness to contribute in a team environment. Crew relies heavily on teamwork and demands that all team members “buy in” to the concept of performing as one athlete. 2) As the leader of the group, coach Preczewski did not effectively incorporate the proper team building exercises or instill trust among teammates that is critical in a team environment. 3) A “star mentality” was evident among the members of the varsity team. Members of this group would routinely critique each other individually on the details of practice or a race. However, members of the junior varsity team did not criticize each another individually. If corrections were needed, they never singled out a crewmember, but made comments about the necessary adjustments needed to improve the effort of the team.…

Shoulder fake left, head fake right, a sweet inside outside move, and he fires it in top shelf, beating the goalie glove side to win the game. While that may sound like a narrative of a game-winning hockey goal, in reality, it is 1:30 AM on your average Thursday night and I am struggling to find the perfect concluding sentence to finish my history term paper. Often when I am struggling to find an answer to a question or need to concentrate on any given topic, I reach for my worn-out Warrior hockey stick and my dusty orange ball and begin to stickhandle mindlessly. One might never know, that my mind is far away from hockey as I look like a complete fool deking (hockey term for getting past people) imaginary people on my way to an imaginary net.…

Playing Ice Hockey was a burning passion of mine. It all started in the cold and dense locker room. Practice had just finished up and we were inside the locker room getting undressed. I was a forward on the team and was only ten years old. The team goalie was sick and was not going to be able to make our game the next day. Coach asked “Is anyone willing to play goalie for our game?” and I, the young ten year old boy I was; was the first person to quickly respond saying “I will!” Playing goalie was destined for me, I was a star and very talented.…

College has so far exceeded my expectations in a huge way. As a new member of the ice hockey team there were many uncertainties and worries, as well as tons of excitements and anticipations. Obviously the biggest part, school, was nerve wracking and exciting too. In college hockey its very common that players take a few years off of school prior to attending, to play hockey in junior hockey leagues. This created a bit more nerves then excitement for the classroom aspect of school since i've only taken 3 college courses since graduating high school, making it a bit harder to get back into the swing of things. Besides getting back into school routine, being a hockey player in college has made the beginning…

There are three things in life I learned in this film which was somewhat, a life-changing for me. The first one was choices and living on its consequences. We are granted to have a free-will to be used for our own purpose. May it be bad or good but what’s really important here is living on its consequences. If it happens that u choose bad/good, then you are responsible for your consequences and how you deal with it just like how those thugs on the juvenile detention centers who made the wrong choices in the first place since they were there but the important scene there was how they face their consequences. They could have just sat there and ignore the opportunity of playing American Football. They are thugs, why would they play football in the first place? But they show how they deal what they made wrong. The second thing I learned in life was, there will always be downfall. A great line from Dwayne Johnson or Coach Sean Porter in film, “you get to the point where you screw up, expect to fail but if we want to win we got to let them go. Forgive em and move on!” speaking towards his star player Jade Yorker or Willie…
