Hilarious, witty and down-to-earth are just some of the words to describe the great film directed by the developing Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg. Both have partnered up and have created 2 films one of which is a sequel to the other. Both are yet to scoop any major awards or honours, but have shown a good potential with there 2 films getting a 4 star rating. They are yet to go solo and have been partners in directing since 2001. ‘Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay’ was released in 2008. It is the sequel of ‘Harold & Kumar get the munchies’. From the till we can assume the 1st Harold and Kumar film is to do with hunger from the title. The film I’m reviewing is some what different and slightly more trouble some as the pair escape from a prison!
The first scene begins with a low camera shot moving slowly towards the bathroom door as it opens. Then we see the back of the naked Harold in the bathtub. It gets even better with the background music being ‘What a wonderful world’ by Louis Armstrong. Then as we see a close up of Harold’s face, a flash back arises of Harold sharing a moment of silence in an elevator with the girl he likes. We then see the two very close to kissing when suddenly it is cut short when Harold hears a strange noise. Then camera then is directed to the shower curtain as Harold slowly moves it. This is my favourite camera shot as suspense is built. It is Kumar is on the toilet seat, Kumar excuses himself as he has too many burgers. This relates to the first of the sequel as both were in search of food and ended up on a road trip to a burger bar miles away. As I’ve described the first scene we can already see the hilarious on goings.
This is film looks inside the university students desires. It goes into depth of the risks people take in life such as drugs and also many other controversial issues such as racism. It also is a surprise as the two main actors are Asian and Indian. Not
