Film Summary And Film Analysis: The Departed
The Departed is a film centered around organized crime that involves a wide array of characters. With drug deals, shootouts, scandals, and espionage, the movie has many tense scenes that have notable staging, costumes, props and settings. At about fifty-two minutes in, Costigan and French enter a man named Brian’s house to assassinate him. Dressed in dark clothes and with French wearing leather gloves, they are dressed to kill. The setup of the room has two conceivable exits, that are instantly blocked by Costigan and French as they enter. As he is obviously about to be murdered, he is pinned behind a table, with no escape, and regresses to throwing a child’s toy at Costigan. He is panicked and the sense of urgency and distress is showed in his actions. The layout of the room is setup so that the victim is trapped as he approaches death. This is a common theme throughout the movie as many characters killed are often pinned …show more content…
Not only are they outnumbered by people, but also by firepower. The police are outfitted with bullet proof vests, shotguns, machine guns, and pistols. Most of Costello’s men have pistols, with one shotgun and possibly two machine pistols. It is important to note the setting of the warehouse as well. Costello’s men are blocked on both sides in the warehouse by a pile of rubble and a wall.
There is a trailer blocking the back as well, and when the police show up and block the entrance there is seemingly no escape for the vehicles. With this setup of the warehouse, Costello and his men are cramped in a small area and are subsequently massacred. Again, this creates a sense of claustrophobia and panic as hundreds of bullets are fired into the cars and criminals, as there is nowhere for them to run. Even though Costello’s men attempt to hold their ground, there is a sense of urgency and helplessness that the audience sees. In Queenan’s death

Kathryn Bigelow, director of The Hurt Locker could have never imagined her movie winning six academy awards. While the opinion from the audience played a role in these winnings, the technical aspect of the movie all the way down to the first shot of the movie, played the biggest role in this achievement. Bigelow used things such as moving camera shots, camera angles, lighting, and the use of long shots to create a realistic feel throughout the movie.…

1.I believe what makes this film so great is the plot of the film combined with the actors ability to give life to the story. Gary Cooper who plays Kane in the film, is an upstanding and ethically good man. Since he demonstrates these characteristics in the film, he makes a believable Marshall. Another reason why this film is so great, is because of the hero premise. I believe this causes the "unsung hero" to resonate with the audience's feelings. This is shown at the very end of the film after the Marshall had confronted the criminals. Even though Kane had stopped Miller, no one in the town cheers or celebrates. They kinda of just accept it as it is and just move on without giving their thanks to the Marshall.…

The Mission was released in 1986 by producers Fernando Ghia and David Puttnam assisted by director Roland Joffé. Some of the actors consisted of Robert De Niro as Rodrigo Mendoza, the main protagonist, and Jeremy Irons as Father Gabriel. The movie, as a whole, I enjoyed very much. The character development in the beginning caught my attention and didn’t leave me constantly drifting off as other films might have. In the movie, Jesuit missionaries are trying to protect a native tribe they had converted to Christianity from Portugal who wanted to enslave the natives for their own use. Rodrigo Mendoza had to go through trials before he accepted his position as a Jesuit priest after he was given the choice by Father Gabriel…

In Ridley Scott’s film “Alien” the world is introduced to new slimy villain in this 1979 horror sci-fi film. That villain is no other than an alien predator whose instincts is to kill anything moving. The alien is stuck in a commercial spacecraft that has six human crew members and an android. After reading articles about science fiction films I really understood how unique and ahead of its time this film was. it doesn’t go the same route that other sci-fi films go through during the 1970s like the Star Wars (1977), 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968), and Close encounter of the Third Kind (1977).…

The first shot in this sequence shows us Michael walking into his firm with proof his boss was aware of U-North’s cover-up and just as importantly to Michael, his friend was right. The document blocks Michael and takes up half the frame to signify its importance. The part of Michael that values morality believes in the Truth, something even more important than him. Before a quick cut, we hear one of the hit men speaking with Karen Crowder, the U-north lawyer who arranged the killing of Arthur. The hit man tailed Michael and knows he has the proof to expose U-north. The two meet on the street, a series of quick cuts makes the scene feel frantic, jumping back and forth between Crowder and the hit man as she skims the document. The hit…

A brown wooden chair turned over drastically on the floor is used on the first vertical third of the shot implying a sense of struggle before the murder took place. This makes the audience feel sympathetic towards them but also horribly disturbed at the same time. Also the chair seems abnormal in the visually pleasing shot of the lifeless girls placed mirroring each other, lying perfectly horizontally across the hallway, their heads on either side of each wall. The chair doesn’t fit at all in the shot creating a sharp contrast in the surrounding…
