This story makes me think about how believing in yourself and working hard can basically help you achieve any goals you have in mind. Jake Cullen had stopped believing in himself for a brief period of time in the beginning of the book. He thought he had no chance of becoming the first string quarterback for Granger High. He kept getting down on himself for worthless thing like overthrowing a ball to Calvin, there #1 receiver, in one of Jake’s first practices. He continued to get down on himself until Coach Jessup, the offensive coordinator, helped him by having one-on-one sessions with Jake after practices. Coach Jessup would help him with his throws and tell him valuable things like “Be Jake Cullen, not Wyatt Cullen,” and “The #1 thing you need to remember is, as long as you believe in yourself, you can do anything.” After about a week or two into these practices with his coach, Jake had already changed, not only with his throws, but with his…

“In this day and age, a film about female action heroes must refuse to take itself even remotely seriously in order to be accepted by the masses. American audiences can accept Tom Cruise breaking into a highly secured vault, but Cameron Diaz doing the same thing must be presented as a campy joke.” – Scott Mendelson discussing Charlie’s Angels back in 2000 for his college newspaper.…
‘Whilst Charlie wins in the end, his most important victory was in choosing to leave Squizzy Taylor.’…

In reading the essay one can summarize that the overall plot is the relationship between the main character and his father through an unprecedented method. Manning starts out the story when he was younger, where he and father would constantly engage in arm wrestling where no matter how much he tried he couldn’t win “Dad would always win”. It also states that his dad was boaster where he took pride in the fact that his son could not beat him. As the story gets more involved one notices that the relationship that Manning had with his father was a physical one. Manning’s father had trouble conveying any type of emotional connection if it was not a competitive one. It seems that his father was the kind of man that if it wasn’t sport related he would not be found. But Manning notices that even if the time where brief his dad would always show him love in the best way that he could. It still does not mean that he didn’t question whether or not his father loved him or not. Not once while he was away did receive a letter or a card. Through his entire struggle in trying to beat his father he found himself trying to cheat, where he would go as far as using two hands and in some cases the help of his brother. As the time went on the physical relationship between the father and the son had changed. There was not any pressure in trying to beat his father anymore. He starts talking about how his father is getting older where he starts to compare his father body to what it used to be back in high school. Which astonishingly he had admired his father for those things. Looking at the characters past Manning tells that he has been challenging his father ever since he can remember. In essences it was an approach that crafted sportsmanship between Manning and his father. As the years winded down and his father grew weaker, Manning started to detest the strong figure in his life started to become weaker. When Manning challenged his…
The author uses the theme actions, the act of blaming others solves nothing In the story, Laurie always blames his actions and wrong doings on Charles, one of his make-believe classmates. In the story, the author mentions, “Charles hit the teacher because she tried to make him color with red crayons.” This is significant because the author made sure to add that detail so that it can possibly show the reader what Laurie’s personality is like behind the classroom doors. The author had also mentions, “Charles had wants to color with green crayons so he hit the teacher and she spanked him.” As the reader reads into the story, they can get a sense of why Laurie (Charles) does the things that he does to other people. The theme in the story Charles…

They all wanted what was best for their boys. It is great for a parent to push you into succeeding because at the end of the day you accomplish and achieve goals for the future. Then again, be lenient because then all the pressure you put on your child can backfire and lead to rebelliousness and mistrust. The lesson is that the American Dream isn’t only one thing, there can be many. American Dream can mean anything and may have different opinions from every single person. Odessa’s dream is parallel to any American citizens which have to go through struggles to accomplish their American dream. Odessa had one opportunity which was to keep its town together by football and it was the only success they could achieve . A town that grew together because of one championship game. Odessa went through some rough times but in the end picked itself up. That shows what one little thing can do to get a whole town…

I have chosen a movie that I have watched recently with fellow peers and teammates from Donovan Catholic High School. The title of this spectacular movie is “When the Game Stands Tall.” The significance of the title designates to the great coaching staff which reached into the hearts of the football players, not only making them outstanding, but making them grow into true men with heart, dedication, and compassion. Based on an extraordinary true story, this movie is about lessons and depicts some such as hard work pays off, play with pride, it is not about the streak but about the team, and it does not matter whether your stronger or faster, it matters if you play with heart! This movie is about De La Salle High School having the greatest winning streak in all of football history. With 151 wins and counting this team did not worry about anything but to continue the streak or be on the “Streak Team,” later on learning of what it actually took to carry on that special streak. This movie takes place in California, “The Golden State.” The setting is important because some of the best football teams reside in this state giving importance the entire movie. There is a book to this spectacular movie in which I have not read but plan to.…
Not every boy has the same luck like Mark Salzman. Many of them try to fight against obstacles, and many of them lose their hope when they fight against obstacles because they still lived at Juvenile Hall. For instance, Francisco is another boy at Juvenile Hall. He used to be a very bad boy, so the staffs that worked in the prison always said that he was a big troublemaker. However, he felt sorry about what he did to his mother. In order to pay for the Attorney's fee, his mother borrowed a lot of money from the others. Not only did she borrow the money, but she also sold out all her stuffs. This made Francisco feel guilty when he faced his mother. He wanted to carry her in his arms and cry. However, he said he would never do like that because he had to pretend that he was stronger that he had been before. He made sure that he won’t ever make his mother worry again. Therefore, he didn’t want to send his letter to his mother even though the whole writing class inspired him to send…
