The purpose of this course is to provide you with an understanding of the fundamentals of investments. Such an understanding is crucial to anyone who wishes to pursue a career in finance and/or participate in financial markets.
Included are topics such as security types, the buying and selling of securities, mutual funds, market efficiency, common stocks and their valuation, diversification, the CAPM, performance evaluation and risk management, options and their valuation, and bonds and their valuation.

Investments is a quantitative subject, and much of the content of this course reflects this fact. I will do many examples in class. Mastering these class problems alone is not sufficient. You should be able to work all relevant endof-chapter problems from the textbook. It is required that you read the chapters to be covered in the class period prior to attending class. Unless otherwise instructed, you will be held responsible for all reading assignments
(even if they are not covered in lecture) plus all supplementary material presented in the lectures.
