The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King by
J.R.R Tolkien is the third book of the Lord of the Rings trilogy. It follows the end of the journey of Frodo Baggins and the Fellowship and their journey to destroy an evil Ring by throwing it into Mount Doom. By destroying the Ring, it also destroys the villain, Sauron, and brings peace to MiddleEarth. Throughout the novel, Frodo is almost killed multiple times due to the Ring and a greed driven creature known as Gollem. However, due to the hero, Samwise Gamgee, Frodos best friend, and his strength to endure, he survives the journey and destroys the ring. The journey takes a toll on all of the Fellowship, especially Frodo and Sam. The Ring slowly withers away at the two Hobbits, almost bringing the death of them.
Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson is an adventure story about Jim Hawkins and band of sailors and their search for Billy Bones treasure. The crew, however, is corrupt, following orders from a greedy man known as Long
John Silver. He convinces the crew to resort to mutiny to get the treasure for themselves. The search for treasure takes a toll on the Hispanola crew, causing the deaths of almost all the mutineers, and those that didn’t die are left marooned on the island. In both stories, greed is a prominent theme and largely influences the plot. The power of greed influences a person to perform careless and possibly fatal actions they normally overcome,
