By the nature of the job of law enforcement one can conclude that there are many occasions when a police officer can face up to with a moral dilemma. The question is when will an officer be faced with one. Throughout an officer career he has referred to the Law Enforcement Code of Ethics, which is a code that represents everything that a police officer should be. The Peace Officers Research Association of California established this code in 1956 and since then has made its way throughout the country to Police departments and its officers. Many department mission statement have been derived from the very words that appear on the code of ethics.…
On April 19, 1995, at 9:02 a.m., the United States of America was reminded that the worst horror often comes from within. Within a matter of days Americans were forced to realize that this terrible tragedy may have been caused by citizens who call themselves patriots. Until the Oklahoma City bombing, Americans generally though of terrorism as a foreign problem that could not invade the walls of this nation. Many Americans had given little thought to what these patriots sought to do. Militia and patriot groups were considered to be fairly harmless groups who enjoyed stirring people up. The vast majority of Americans did not realize how serious or how dangerous these groups actually were. Very few people could understand why a fellow countryman would wreak such havoc on them. When it was learned that the accused suspects in the Oklahoma City bombing allegedly had ties to political extremist groups, citizens started to give these groups a second, closer look. Very slowly, and over several decades, these fundamental extremist groups and backyard political patriots have evolved into the most dangerous enemy this country has ever faced.…

Physical evidence- or real evidence is defined as physical objects, such as weapons, drugs, and clothing. The techniques used to obtain physical evidence ultimately vary from each circumstance. In particular, this chapter highlights the confiscation of evidence in situations lacking the use of a search warrant. In regard to, obtaining physical evidence from the person of suspect, there are three types of encounters in which occur between citizens and law enforcement officers. The first encounter can be voluntary. A voluntary conversation usually takes place in a public area and in which the individual is permitted to leave the encounter at any given moment. An investigation stop, or Terry stop, is solely on the officer’s discretion. An officer with reasonable suspicion to believe “crime is afoot” is able to stop and question an individual. For example, if a police officer is patrolling an area with high crime rates of burglary and comes across an individual circling a house in search of a point of entry. The officer under reasonable doubt of recent burglaries can approach and question the suspect of his/her current intentions. The final encounter is an arrest that is justified by probable cause to believe that the person has committed the crime. In most cases, evidence has been weighted against the individual, in which is followed by an…

Conjointly, terrorist organizations and associations can be both foreign and domestic to the United States of America. According to the U.S Department of State and other branches of government under the federal law, the government has no indication to mention domestic terrorism as the nation only mentions foreign terrorist organizations and associations that threaten or have threatened the states with…
How do daily issues such as probable cause affect police from a legal standpoint? How can these issues be improved to aid police organizations in combating crime?…
There are several reasons for confusion. First, terrorism is difficult to define because it has a pejorative connotation. (Pejorative means that it is emotionally charged.) A person is politically and socially degraded when labeled a terrorist, and the same thing happens when an organization is called a terrorist group. Routine crimes assume greater social importance when they are described as terrorism, and political movements can be hampered when their followers are believed to be terrorists.…
