Summary: In 1930, the Jencraft Corporation was found by brothers Dan and ralph Gitkin to manufacture venetian blinds and co-operated with the Levolor Company which catered to special order hard window treatment. The Jencraft started to import bamboo roll-ups from Japan. Its markets were emerging hardware and home center markets. Its products such as shelving and café doors brought the Jencraft about $25 million throughout 1960s annually. Later, the company changed and put additional products which were imported from Taiwan strictly importer 1954. In 1980s, the company met a big change. Firstly, the founders were no long working; they left Dan’s sons (Ron and Merrill) taking care of the firm. Secondly, American consumers became interesting with a new version of their products. New leaders of the firm took their job very seriously so they decided to expand their sourcing activities in Asia and opened a second office in Taiwan because it could help to pursue additional markets particularly in the department stores and emerging mass merchants. By 1958, Jencraft Corporation had become the largest importer of vinyl mini blinds in the United State. Moreover, with its success, the corporation was supported by many famous firms and corporations at that time. Annual sale had grown to over $60 million and kept growing 25-30% per year. The Jencraft could expand its markets profitably and implement additional product line extension such as fabric and vinyl stock, packaged verticals for sliding patio doors. This plan was accepted by majority of retailers. However, during this time the firm also met some difficulties. First of all, delivery from Taiwan was problem, when communication with the staff was not well and lack of inputs needed to produce the blinds delays and price increases.
