Kickstarter is a website that enables people to raise money for creative projects. People can make a small donation to support the one they’re interested. Rayger is a Kickstarter project that impressed our group on how the two college students had turned a freshman class project into a successful campaign. The objective of this research project is to study the development of creative project ideas and make a strategic analysis of the product. More importantly, this project is to help us reflect on the concepts which we’ve learned in the Strategic Management course and apply them to our life.
In this final report we will provide an in-depth explanation and analysis. Then we will be discussing on the process of idea development using Porter’s Five Forces and challenges in idea generation, finding partners and reaching out to clients/suppliers. Besides, we will focusing on role networks and communities play in the process, partner involvement and client/supplier relationships. Finally we will conclude with a summary of findings with further interviews, analysis and also our decision on buying this product or not.
Rayger is a music frequency response light shows which designed for dorms, homes, cars, parties or even Christmas tree. It flashes LED lights with the beat and rhythms of the music. This product was developed by Jason Smith and Trevor Nash, they both are senior in Harvard University, majoring in engineering. Besides Jason and Trevor share most duties of the product, Demetrio Anaya which was their roommate also responsible for the circuit design and solid modeling of future products. Rayger has successfully funded $24,900 on Kickstarter in 42 days with 200 backers.
Besides, at the beginning of the semester, we chose Rayger among other projects on Kickstarter because of the close proximity and the high chance to obtain an interview with someone who are seniors in college just like us. Fortunately, we got to have a phone interview with the
