Financial Management - Solved example
A proposal to extend the ABC Gas Company Ltd’s gas distribution network to the NOIDA industrial cluster, about 40 km east of Delhi, at distance of about 20 kms from the ABC’s existing transmission line, is under the consideration of its CEO, Prerna Goyal. The NOIDA industrial cluster is dominated by the textiles industry including texturising, weaving, spinning and yarn units with over 2,500 small and medium size units. The potential of gas consumption in these industries is mainly on account of captive power. Power constitutes 40 - 65 percent of the production cost in the key target sectors for gas supply. The units in the cluster have been considering reduction of power costs by moving away from the expensive grid supply to captive power generation. The total estimated potential of captive power presently is 45 MW which corresponds to 0.30 million standard cubic meters per day (MSCMD) of gas. The proposed project is essentially an extension of the distribution network in the existing Delhi distribution zone.
A market survey of potential customer to assess the gas demand potential in the region has identified over 40 customers with a combined gas demand of 0.25 MSCMD for captive power. Negotiation for gas supply has also been initiated with them. ABC Gas Ltd has received expression of interest for over 0.075 MSCMD. However, timing of gas supply is the key since alternative fuel option such as solid and liquid fuels and wind energy are available. The expression of interest would fall through if gas is not supplied by mid 2008.
Amit Kumar, an engineer consultant, is hired by Prerna Goyal to identify the most feasible and economical route for laying down the gas pipeline. A preliminary site survey is followed by reconnaissance survey by Amit. After conducting Quantified Risk Assessment and evaluating several pipeline options, the consultant has proposed a 12 inch, 150 class low pressure (19 bar) pipeline for a total length of 30 kms from the ABC’s transmission

There are a couple of concerns with Competition Bikes Inc., ProForma for year 9. The first concern is the amount of money that is allocated to research and development. For the previous three years, they have been all over the board with their budgets. The sixth year was $71,460, the seventh year was $98,280, and the eight year was $82,284. This is concerning that the budget has fluctuated so much. In the ninth year they have allocated $85,861. This budget line item should be analyzed so there is not so much variance in the budget between year to year.…

Financial Analysis Task 5 Part B-Report to CEO B1. Custom Snowboards sales history has been steadily increasing per the table below. CSI has had small growth in sales with an equal increase in COGS. The COGS is relative to the increase in the net sales, however, CSI should look further into ways they can decrease their COGS line item in order to see more profit growth from year to year. We can see on the Horizontal Analysis below that net sales, COGS and Profit all had the same increases from years 12 to 13 and from years 13 to 14. This is indicative of CSI needing to do more cost based analysis to see where they can make production cost cuts and boost sales. Per the data, operating costs also increased alongside the net sales. Items such as transportation, sales commissions (which would have increased with net sales), and advertising all increased from years 12 to 14.…

If I were Jane Barrow, I would suggest shale gas as the best. Since the industrial, electric power and residential make a large contribution for the use of natural gas, the stakeholder in these parts are very important. After multiattribute risk analysis, the chart from Exhibit 10 shows they are care about using energy produced in their own jurisdiction. From the Exhibit 3, with the increasing need of natural gas to satisfy consumption, more and more net imports have been done. Shale gas has the largest production capacity per day which is suitable for these stakeholders’ objective. This feature will satisfy most of the stakeholders. Although the project is the most expensive one, its huge production makes the profit the largest among these three. So after comparing these projects, I would make the recommendation for shale gas project.…
