National Standard(s):
* Students should be able to communicate at a basic level in the four arts disciplines—dance, music, theatre, and the visual arts. This includes knowledge and skills in the use of the basic vocabularies, materials, tools, techniques, and intellectual methods of each arts discipline.
* integrate visual, spatial, and temporal concepts with content to communicate intended meaning in their artworks
State Standard(s): D.S.LII.1: Communication: Students will use dance as a way to create and communicate meaning.
Objective:
D.O.LII.1.1 - Articulate understanding of how personal experience influences the interpretation of a dance.
D.O.LII.1.2 - Use improvisation to prepare a movement phrase that communicates abstract ideas.
D.O.LII.1.3 - Collaborate to create a dance that communicates a relevant social theme.
Procedures: Students will select a poem that has been discussed in class. The students will form small groups (2-3 students) and design dance moves that they will use to express the poem that they choose. The groups will use a recording of the poem in the back ground as they dance.
Assessment:
The teacher will use observation to determine if the dances are choreographed appropriately for the poem that was chosen.
Remediation:
Any student that is unable to perform a dance will be asked to do a spoken word presentation of the poem they choose and they will be asked to give an oral interpretation in the form of a
