Firat's Song We Wish You A Merry Christmas
We Wish You a Merry Christmas is said to be good luck song from England in the 16th century. No author is know for this song since it’s original has been lost over the years. Historians dated it back to the 16th century by finding the last known copy of it and of the most popular christmas food at the time was figgy pudding with in what the second and third verses are about. Some think that it started a carol the the poor people used, they would carol to the wealthy in hope for some money. That also might be where the part of the verse where they are basically demanding figgy pudding comes and referring to not leaving your door step until that happens. Also in England at the time January firat was not the start of a new year so that line was probable added on later on. Figgy pudding is like a cake but it has figs in it. From my understanding it’s a lot like bread pudding. We Wish You a Merry Christmas is in the classical christmas genre, which is pretty obvious. But after all this time We Wish You a Merry Christmas is still sang and caroled everywhere that celebrates christmas. Out of all the christmas songs in america the most popular song the All I Want for Christmas is You by Mariah Carey in 1994.
