NBCD RESPONSIBILITIES
It is the duty of every one on board, by good ships husbandry, knowledge of the ship and the proper appreciation of the NBCD problem, to minimise the risks to a ship at sea and harbour.

AIM OF NBCD (ART-0103)
NBCD measures are required to afford:
a. Protection to personnel from the effects of fire and damage, chemical/biological agents. b. The limitation, control and repair of material damage however caused, in peace and war.
PERSONAL KNOWLEDGE (ART-0104)
The nucleus of the organisation in a small team of officers and men drawn from several departments but, in its broad sense, NBCD concerns the whole ship and every man in it and has definite application to all divisions, departments and quarters. Every member of the Ships Company as a potential link in the organisation, and the action had taken by him, whether routine or emergency. Thus every person on board must have some understanding of:
a. What to do in case of fire, the first aid equipment to use and how to use it.
b. The need for watertight/gastight integrity; the meanings of risk and control markings; the use of location markings.
c. The care and use of personal protection equipment.
d. Elementary first aid.
e. The layout of the ship and the whereabouts of equipment’s for fire fighting and emergency repair.
f. The effects of damage and how they can be minimised.
g. How to pass quick and accurate reports.
