I asked him where the Acton firefighters were and identified myself as a junior firefighter of the department, he nodded and pointed me in the direction of my fire family.
As I make my way toward them they are working on putting ladders up to the roof, and a crew of three from my department were inside fighting the fire. As I get closer I spot Chief Langley. I remind him that I am a junior due to limitations junior firefighters have; such as, going inside a house that is deemed unsafe without SCBA (self contained breathing apparatus), directing traffic, going on a roof, etc. he acknowledges and sends me with Captain Lambert to do a walk around.
We walk around the building identifying things that have been done, observe fire behavior, and the incident as a whole. In this case the fire started in the basement. On our walk around we come to an area outside the basement door that is open and is a basement but also partially a garage. Inside the basement contained a motorcycle and thick black smoke but I couldn’t see flames from where I was observing. We continue to walk around and notice things that we would have done differently but sometimes mistakes are made and that is okay.
