My first “ah-ha” moment was while taking the first class in the program, N3645 Transition to Professional Nursing. We had the opportunity to learn about theorists, at the time I had never heard studied or taken the time to understand them, then I got to read the writings of Jean Watson, and one statement she lives by, “Maybe this one moment, with this one person, is the very reason we’re here on earth at this time...” (Watson, 2012, p. 2). I think if all nurses felt that way about each patient, we would only treat them more than a disease, but a person. My second “Ah-ha” moment would have been during the assessment course, even though I had taken assessment courses, three to be exact, this one just felt different, it was really up to us to go out and hone our assessment skills, at work I sought out th providers to help me have a better understanding at the skills, and how they should be done correctly, I am a better nurse because of this. I understand a “professional nurse” to be someone who has gone to school, put in the time to educate themselves not only about patient care, but also has a keen understanding of the profession of nursing. This would be someone with a BSN or higher, they have the degrees to back up what they say, although there is something about the nurse that is a ADN and has spent years giving patient care, but they are limiting themselves in their practice, because they are lacking the under standing of EBP, research, and why It is so important in the field of nursing. Many times an ADN will go from experience, rather than Evidence Base Practice, something proven to have a better outcome for the patient, in safety along with quality improvement in health care. Professional nursing will push healthcare into a better place where patients have Better care and better
